A Leader in Adult Care has the responsibility of managing community or residential-based services. The role is strongly leadership-based, whether that’s in leading other care workers and networks or leading the service itself, so successful apprentices must have the skills and vision to manage teams. Additionally, the role is very diverse, so it’s important for apprentices to have the versatility to turn their hand to a range of potential responsibilities, such as business development, financial control, organisational resilience and continuity, and risk management.
Apprenticeship Assessment Components
To complete their Apprenticeship Assessment, Leader in Adult Care apprentices must achieve a pass, merit or distinction in the following two components.
-
The observation of leadership offers apprentices the ability to demonstrate their skills, behaviour and leadership to an organisational audience. The apprentice must lead the observed activity and will have prepared for this after gateway in agreement with their employer and Training Qualifications UK.
The Apprenticeship Assessment Assessor observes the apprentice’s leadership in a 60-minute session, the nature of which will be agreed upon at the assessment planning meeting. The apprentice will be given two to four weeks to prepare for this activity.
Following the observation, the Apprenticeship Assessment Assessor will conduct a 30-minute question-and-answer session to seek clarification about any points which were unclear.
-
The Professional Discussion is an in-depth, two-way discussion between the Apprentice and the Apprenticeship Assessment Assessor and should take 90 minutes (+10% at the discretion of the Apprenticeship Assessment Assessor to allow the Apprentice to finish their last answer). The Apprenticeship Assessment Assessor will ask questions to ensure all the relevant behaviours, knowledge and skills that are mapped to this assessment method are covered.
