Playwork is a modern and exciting development in the area of early years learning. It's all about supporting children as they take responsibility for themselves and their own play, learning about the world around them as they have fun. As such, no two days are the same, and Playworkers must show adaptability, keen observational skills and the ability to monitor and step in where needed. Most Playworkers are employed in the voluntary or public sector, and operate in varied settings such as Before and After School Clubs, Adventure Playgrounds and Mobile Play Provision.
Apprenticeship Assessment Components
To complete their Apprenticeship Assessment, Playworker apprentices must achieve a pass or distinction in their professional discussion and observation with questions. The multiple-choice questions test is judged as a fail or pass.
-
This component is based around 40 multiple-choice questions. Apprentices have 60 minutes to complete the test and it must be taken in a controlled environment.
-
The professional discussion is a two-way discussion involving both the Apprenticeship Assessment Assessor and the Apprentice. It lasts 60 minutes and the Assessor asks at least seven questions, all of which are about certain aspects of the occupation. The apprentice may have access to their portfolio during the assessment.
-
The observation with questions is undertaken by an Apprenticeship Assessment Assessor and lasts for three hours. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours assigned to this assessment component. A minimum of four questions are asked during the assessment.
