The importance of mental health first aid training in the workplace

Did you know that 15% of working-age adults live with a mental health condition?

Here at Training Qualifications UK, we love helping our learners gain qualifications that support them and others. That’s why February’s Qualification of the Month is the TQUK Level 2 Award for Emergency First Aid for Mental Health (RQF) (603/5094/5). 

Without effective support, mental health conditions can affect a person’s identity and confidence at work, potentially leading to time off. 

This qualification allows individuals in a workplace setting to gain skills and knowledge to support those around them who may be suffering from mental health disorders.

Research shows that 12 billion working days are lost every year to depression and anxiety alone. With this qualification, learners will be able to converse with colleagues struggling with their mental health and provide appropriate help. They can offer initial support through non-judgment listening and guidance. 

With a reported 1 in 4 people suffering from mental health disorders each year, training people in mental health awareness and skills at work to build an open and supportive culture around mental health is crucial. Being trained in emergency first aid for mental health gives employees a dedicated individual to turn to when they aren’t feeling their best.

Progression 

Learners who complete this qualification often complete other qualifications, including: 

• Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health  

• Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work. 

Total Qualification Time

The Total Qualification Time for this qualification is 20 hours.

How to start delivering this qualification as a Centre
