Changes to assessment requirements for counselling qualification

*PLEASE BE AWARE: THIS BLOG POST CONTAINS MENTIONS OF ADAPTATIONS THAT WERE IMPLEMENTED AS A COVID-19 MEASURE, THESE ADAPTATIONS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/23, IN LINE WITH THE GOVERNMENT'S POLICY TO RETURN TO PRE-PANDEMIC ARRANGEMENTS FOR EXAMS AND ASSESSMENTS, THE USE OF ADAPTATIONS IS NO LONGER PERMITTED TO ASSIST IN MITIGATING THE IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC OR IN RESPONSE TO PUBLIC HEALTH MEASURES*

Here at Training Qualifications UK, we are always working to refine and improve our qualifications. This helps to ensure that no matter the sector, our specifications are up to date and are as accessible for our centres and their learners as possible.

With this in mind, we have made edits to the TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (RQF). Mindful of the adaptations put in place during the pandemic, and of the convenience and ease created by the use of simulation for the competency-based aspects of this qualification, we examined the possibility of using this format of assessment permanently.

Following feedback from our centres and subject experts, we have concluded that a new set of assessment requirements are the best course of action. As such the following has been added to unit T/502/6632 of the specification:

Assessment requirements

AC 3.1: As this criterium requires a practical assessment learners may undertake a roleplay/simulation. The witness testimony may be prepared by the peers, tutor or assessor of the learner and must be objective. It also must provide sufficient detail to show that the learner has accurately met the assessment criteria. This new version is now live and ready for use.

We look forward to more improvements to our qualifications in the near future.

If you have any further questions regarding the above, contact our qualifications team.
